Been a little busy lately…. Here’s why:
Today sees the launch of the first comprehensive digital currency education site, Coin Academy (http://CoinAcademy.co). The self-paced learning site features original content and curated collections of digital currency resources from around on the web.
Coin Academy’s original courses focus on the most popular topics, including Bitcoin for beginners and Bitcoin for merchants. Other courses currently in the catalog deal with security fundamentals and a broader history of the rise of digital currencies. The curated collections cover Bitcoin as well all the most popular alt-coins: Litecoin, Dogecoin, Ripple, NXT and Peercoin, with more to be added in the coming weeks. All courses are free of charge.
“The sudden emergence of digital currencies, like Bitcoin, left the education and training market struggling to keep up,” states Stephen DeMeulenaere, co-founder of Coin Academy. “We found a number of good tutorials and interviews on the web, but we found a lot more poorly produced unprofessional pieces.” He emphasised that the complexity of the cryptocurrency world makes it all the more important that people are able to find relevant and authoritative information to prepare themselves for entry into the digital currency space. “Security is more critical with financial transactions than with other forms of data, and people simply need more information in order to make informed decisions,” he added.
“Until the launch of Coin Academy, there was no single place people where could learn about digital currencies. Resources were scattered about, from YouTube, to Vimeo, to individual websites. It’s in everyone’s best interest that this information be easily available,” stated Ric Shreves, Coin Academy co-founder and the voice of the Coin Academy original tutorials. “We’ve made the resource free and we’ve done our best to create materials that take complex topics and make them accessible to a broad audience.”
The project is the brain child of alternative economics expert Stephen DeMeulenaere who has more than 20 years experience with digital currencies, and Ric Shreves, a web developer and the author of numerous books on open source technology, including the Joomla! Bible and the Drupal Bible.
Shreves said, “Stephen and I attended a number of Bitcoin related events, only to see people struggle with the same basic set of questions every time.”
“People were hungry for the information, but weren’t able to educate themselves,” Demeulanaere added. “It reminded us of the early days of the internet. Everybody knows they should be involved, but they don’t know where to start. Now they can start with Coin Academy”
