I wound up working in Afghanistan for the first half of 2008. It’s an amazing place. Taking great photos is a cinch: These amazing subjects are right there in front of you and they are so compelling. It’s genuinely hard not to take great shots. I was very fortunate in that I was able to get out of Kabul and travel in the countryside, where I was able to see, among other things, the damage wrought on the Buddhas of Bamiyan. This gallery is but a small sampling of the photos I took while there. These pictures were taken in early 2008 in Kabul, Ishtalif and Bamiyan.
